ORGANIC FOOD

Many refrain from increasing use of chemical agents in order to increase food production and higher profits. Therefore, it is increasingly asking for food produced without the use of chemical pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and other chemicals, and there is developing organic production, which gives the market a natural food, without the use of chemicals and improves the land.

What are organic products?

Organic products are products obtained from strictly controlled mode of production, which is regulated by law and is called the organic production. This means that organic food is produced using methods that do not involve modern artificial additives such as, pesticides and chemical fertilizers, do not contain genetically modified organisms and has not been treated by irradiation, industrial solvents or chemical food additives.

In most of human history, agricultural production can be called "organic". But during the 20 - th century people began to use large quantities of artificial chemicals in food production. The movement of organic agriculture was created in 1940 - such as the response to the industrialization of agriculture and is known as the Green Revolution.

Organic production is, in contrast to the private vegetable growing, regulated by law. Currently, in the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and other countries, food manufacturers need to gain a special certification for organic production, in order to launch into the market their products as "organic". For the purposes of this Act, Organic food is produced in a way that is compliant with the standards laid down in the national or international level. In most countries, organic foods must not be genetically modified. It is proposed that the application of nanotechnology in food production should be excluded from certified organic food.

Organic products are safe, free from artificial materials and chemical - synthetic pesticides. Therefore they are healthier and have a higher nutritional value. Studies show that organic products contain up to 63% more potassium, 73% more iron, 125% more calcium and 60% more zinc than the products obtained by conventiona manufacture. Because of the process of getting, that is in harmony with nature, organic products are more vital energy and strength, and it is precisely responsible for maintaining the immune system and the vitality of the human body. In particular, it highlights the importance in the diet of children..

The benefits of organic food

- The quality and safety of food - organic products have increased biological and nutritional value, which is reflected in the increased content of vitamins and minerals, calcium, magnesium, iron, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants;
- Food without residues of pesticides and heavy metals;
- Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their products are absolutely forbidden in organic production;
- Food without of artificial additives, preservatives, emulsifiers, artificial colors, flavors and flavor enhancers;
- No antibiotic residues, growth regulators and other veterinary drugs;
- Organic products have a characteristic taste, smell and color for a given species which is often called "the forgotten taste of food from the countryside";

How to recognize an organic product?

The meaning and origin of the concept of organic food

Lord Northbourne in 1939 used the term "organic farming" in his book "Sea Land", based on his concept by which the farm is regarded as one body, to describe ecologically balanced approach to agricultural production, opposite to what he called "chemical agriculture "(referring to the artificial fertility and does not constitute an organic whole).

Identification of organic food

Processed organic food usually contains only organic ingredients. Personal definition of organic food was developed from direct experience: the interview with the breeder, observing conditions on farms and monitoring activities during breeding. As the requirements for organic food increased, large supplies of organic food were substitute for direct procurement from farmers.

Today there is no limit to the size of the farm where it is grown organic foods, and because of that many large farms have departments where grown organic foods. It's difficult to distinguish this kind of food on the market, so this food is tagged as "certified organic" product.
